Intro - Fantasy on Draft Methodology

The Draft Companion combines the methodology of Value-Based Drafting (VBD) with Tiers , Average Draft Position (ADP), and Scarcity.

Each of these drafting strategies comes with strengths and weaknesses:

  • Value-Based Drafting highlights how much better a player is positionally, enabling cross-positional comparisons. VBD doesn't take into consideration the consensus price (ADP) of players, though, which puts you at a risk of overpaying for players.
  • Tiers excel at showing positional drop-offs and grouping players with similar projected performances. Tiers can be deceiving when comparing players of different positions, however, as the player in a higher tier is not necessarily the better player.
  • Average Draft Position (ADP) is about the closest we can get to understanding a player's price. ADP can help you identify how other managers are valuing players, but how do you compare players of different positions, who have similar or identical ADP?
  • Scarcity shows remaining value at each position but isn't comparable across positions on its own.
The Fantasy On Draft Methodology combines these popular drafting strategies, eliminating each of their shortcomings.

1. Create New Draft Kit

Setting up a new draft kit is quick and easy. From the Draft Dashboard, select the  button to bring up a window with basic settings.

2. Basic Settings

To create a new draft kit, you will need the following details:

  • Draft name
  • Number of teams
  • Your draft position
  • Scoring settings: Standard, PPR, Half-PPR, or Custom
  • Average Draft Position (ADP) presets
  • Draft order type: snaking or linear
  • Roster settings: starting positions and bench spots
Once we these are set, you are ready to create a draft kit.

Select the  button to generate a new draft kit and load the Draft Kit View.

3. Header and Draft Ticker

Once the Draft Companion loads, you will see a header across the top of the page with three buttons:

The  Back button will return you to the Draft Dashboard.

The  Draftboard button opens a window with the entire draft board visible.

The  Settings button opens a window with Team, Scoring, ADP, and Value settings.

Below the header, you will see a scrollable list of draft picks. This is called the Draft Ticker. As you input draft picks, it will automatically scroll to the current pick.

4. Additional In-Draft Settings

Select the  Settings button to adjust additional draft settings:

  • Draft position
  • Team names

5. Players and Roster

The Players tab, on the left side of the page, contains a searchable list of all players that can be sorted by:

  • Value - calculated value based on Projected Points and Value Baselines
  • Average Draft Position (ADP) - public consensus on when to draft players in Standard, PPR, and Half-PPR leagues
  • Projected Points - personalized season projected fantasy points based on Scoring Settings
As players are drafted in your mock draft or real draft, mirror the selections in the Draft Kit by clicking the  Draft button, located to the right of each player.

The Roster tab contains a list of inputted draft picks associated with your team.

6. Finding Value

The Values section is the focal point of the Draft Kit and sits to the right of the Players and Roster tabs.

Here, you will find positional lists of Player Cards sorted by value, enabling quick and easy cross-position comparison.

Good picks are highlighted in yellow. Great Picks are highlighted in green.

7. Finding Value - Player Cards

To expedite the comparison process, each Player Card displays the following information in a compact, easy-to-read format:

  • Name, Team, and Bye Week
  • Average Draft Position (ADP) - This is the player's "price," or public consensus on when the player should be drafted in Standard, PPR, and Half-PPR leagues.
  • Value - This is the difference in a player's Projected Points, as compared to a Value Baseline player at the same position. Use this to compare across positions. By default, value baselines are calculated based on the starting roster settings, also known as "Value Over Last Starter" (VOLS). To modify the value baselines to better match the tendencies of your league, subscribe at the Premium Tier.
  • Positional Scarcity (Scar) - This is the percentage of value remaining at the same position if the player is selected. This assumes the players of higher value at the same position have been selected as well. This dynamically updates as players are selected.
  • Tier - Indicates the end of a group of similar players, or a significant positional drop-off.

Additionally, the Average Draft Position (ADP) and Value are conditionally highlighted, to show when players are estimated to be selected. The combinations of these estimates can help you visualize the next round of picks.

For instance, a Player Card with:

  • Both an ADP and a value indicates that the player should have been selected before your current pick. These cards are also highlighted in green, making it easy to quickly identify great picks.
  • Both an ADP and a value indicates that the player will most likely be selected before your next pick. These cards are also highlighted in yellow, making it easy to quickly identify good picks.
  • Only an ADP indicates that the player is overvalued based on the Scoring Settings and is not worth drafting at the current pick.
  • Both an ADP and a value indicates that the player is undervalued based on the Scoring settings and may be available at your next pick.
  • Only a value indicates that the player is extremely undervalued based on the Scoring settings and may be available at a few of your next picks.
