Value Baselines

Value, the cornerstone of Value-Based Drafting, is a comparison of a player’s projected performance against a predefined baseline player of the same position.

Example: Player A is a running back and is projected to score 100 points. The running back Baseline Player is projected to score 60 points. Player A’s Value is the difference: 40.

The Baseline Player can be defined in many ways, but here are some common ones:

  • Value Over Replacement Player (VORP): The Baseline Player is the best player available on waivers at the same position.
  • Value Over Last Starter (VOLS): The Baseline Player is the last starting player at the same position.
  • Value Over Next Available (VONA): The Baseline Player is the best player at the same position estimated to be available at your next pick.
The Fantasy On Draft Kit utilized a combination of VOLS and VONA, represented by Value and Loss.
